• A diaper bag. If the diaper bag appears to look like a backpack, there can be exceptions made here at the gate

My Clear Bag Recommendation + Experience

I’ve never had a problem getting my clear fanny pack through the bag check at any stadium. My clear fanny pack measures 11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″, which makes it smaller than what most venues allow. How Does State Farm Arena Review Your Bag?

Spectators coming to State Farm Arena for a basketball game or event will go through a metal detector before entering the facility. If a fan has a bag with them, then the security staff at the entrance will inspect that item individually. During the inspection, the security staff will review if the bag fits their single-compartment policy, does not exceed the size limit, and has no prohibited items inside. You can enter the facility with that bag if everything checks out during the inspection.

 

What Items Can’t You Bring into State Farm Arena?

If you are going to State Farm Arena for a game or event, it is in your best interest to review the prohibited items list ahead of time. Below are some more common items the security staff won’t allow to enter the arena. Here is the official prohibited items list from the Atlanta Hawks to see everything in more detail.

 

• Aerosol cans
• Weapons of any kind
• Hard-sided bags
• Bags that exceed 14″ x 14″ x 6″
• Fireworks
• Laser pointers
• ipads
• Flags
• Any outside food or beverage. (As a note, there are exceptions made for this at the gate when a family needs to bring in something specific for a child or a medical reason)

 

What Should You Do If Your Bag Is Too Big to Enter State Farm Arena?

If you bring a bag that can’t enter the Atlanta Hawks venue for any reason, there is a bag valet section at Gate 2. The bag valet section at gate 2 opens two hours before every game and event and stays open about an hour after the event. As a note, this section can sell out, especially for a big game or event, so plan to arrive early to the arena if you think your bag can’t enter the facility.

 

If the bag valet section no longer has space to drop off your bag, consider seeing if a nearby hotel will hold onto your belongings. Since the venue is in downtown Atlanta, numerous hotels are nearby. Most hotels tend to watch your items for a small fee, but space does come on a first-come and first-served basis. Also, it is worth noting that the Atlanta Hawks are not affiliated with using a hotel to watch your stuff, so you assume the risk of using a hotel to protect your property.
