SAP Center Bag Policy

SAP Center (AKA the Shark Tank) is home to the San Jose Sharks NHL team at 525 W Santa Clara St, San Jose, California 95113. The SAP Center bag policy allows bags that don’t exceed 5″ x 9″ x 2″ to enter the stadium with fans. The only exception to the bag size limit is if fans need to bring in medical bags or something similar into the venue. Otherwise, the bag size limit of 5″ x 9″ x 2″ is strongly enforced at the gates.

Here is the complete SAP Center bag policy for your next event.

Approved Bags

In 2019, SAP Center at San Jose had a clear bag policy that was in place. However, in 2023 they are now only allowing small wristlets and similar types of bags that don’t exceed 5″ x 9″ x 2″ to enter the venue. The only exception to that rule is that the stadium staff will allow medical and diaper bags to enter the facility with fans who need to bring them in. Below are the bags that can come into the arena with fans for an event.

  • A purse that does not exceed 5″ x 9″ x 2″
  • A clear single-compartment bag that does not exceed 5″ x 9″ x 2″
  • Any ADA-specific bag
  • Medical bags / Diaper bags. Don’t worry if these bags are larger than 5″ x” 9″ 2″. If you need to bring these bags in, tell the staff at the gate that this bag is for medical reasons. Parenting bags will go through an X-ray machine at the entrance and a visual inspection before you can get them back to enter the arena.
  • A small wallet
  • Wristlets that don’t exceed 5” x 9” x 2”

Is There a Bag Check or Locker Storage Area for Fans to Use at SAP Center?

Binbox is on the premise at SAP Center that allows Sharks fans to rent lockers to put their bags in if they can’t bring them into the arena. The cost to rent a locker at SAP Center is $10. This bag check area comes on a first come and first served basis, so plan to arrive an hour or two before the hockey game to get one of these lockers before they sell out. The two bag check locations are at Sharks Alley and Barack Obama Boulevard.

If you drive to the game and can’t bring your bag into the hockey venue, you can always return it to your vehicle and leave it there. Leaving your bag in your car is the best option since you don’t need to pay for a locker. Plus, you don’t need to wait in line after a game to get your bag at Binbox.

Finally, if you don’t have a car to leave your bag in and can’t get a locker at the venue, see if a nearby hotel or restaurant can watch your stuff. Most hotels and bars charge a small bag-holding fee for fans going to the arena for an event.
