Prudential Center Bag Policy

Prudential Center (the Rock) is home to the NHL New Jersey Devils and the NCAA Seton Hall Pirates team at 25 Lafayette St, Newark, NJ 07102. The Prudential Center bag policy allows fans to bring bags into the venue if they don’t exceed 12″ x 14″. However, fans can’t bring backpacks into the venue.

Here is the complete Prudential Center bag policy guideline for your next event. I also share my bag recommendation on what to bring to the game. Finally, there is an affiliate link to Amazon on this page.

Approved Bags

While the Prudential Center does not require bags in 2023 to be clear, more and more venues are now moving towards that policy. Therefore, getting a clear bag today sets you up for when or if that change occurs. Below are the types of bags that can come into the venue.

  • A clear fanny pack
  • A clear single-compartment bag that does not exceed 12″ x 14″
  • Medical bags/ADA-specific bags / Diaper bags / Childcare bags
  • Single-compartment bags, like drawstring bags that don’t exceed 12″ x 14
  • Small purses

My Clear Bag Recommendation + Experience

My Clear Bag Recommendation

From my experience, I’ve never had an issue bringing my clear fanny pack to stadiums for a few reasons. First, the pack itself is clear, so it passes the clear bag policy that most venues have today. Second, since it is clear, the security team can do a quick visual check of the bag at the gate, which means I get into the venue faster. Third, the bag that I carry into venues is 11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″, which means it is very small. Finally, I find that the fanny pack that I have to be comfortable to wear, which is important as I walk around stadiums with it.

Below is a video of me going into more detail on why I recommend this type of bag.

Fans coming to Prudential Center for a game or concert will undergo a metal detector screening at the gate. Fans with a bag will undergo an additional metal detector and screening process at the entrance. The security screening team will review the size of the bag and the content inside of it. If the bag is not a backpack, is no larger than 12″ x 14″, and does not contain prohibited items, you will be all set to bring it into the game.

Is There a Bag Check or Locker Storage Area at Prudential Center?

Is There a Bag Check or Locker Storage Area at Prudential Center

There is a bag check at Prudential Center for fans to use if their bag can’t enter the arena with them. The bag check lockers are at the M&M’s Tower and Lafayette Street Entrances. As a note, there is a limited amount of space in these areas for bags, so plan to arrive two hours before your event to get one of these spaces for your bag.

If you drive to Prudential Center and realize you can’t bring your bag into the arena, you can always leave it in your car.

Finally, if you took the train into Newark Penn Station from NYC and can’t get a locker at the venue to put your bag in, you can see if a nearby hotel or bar can watch your bag. Most nearby hotels and bars charge a small fee to hold onto bags for fans while at the game.
