FedEx Field Bag Policy

FedEx Field is home to the Washington Commanders (formerly Washington Football Team and Washington Redskins) NFL team at 1600 Fedex Way, North Englewood, Maryland, 20785. There is a clear bag policy at FedEx Field that allows fans to bring in clear single-compartment tote bags that does not exceed 12” x 6” x 12” in size. Fans can also bring in small clutch shoulder strap bags, wristlets and clutches that don’t exceed 4.5” x 6.5” in size. Finally, medical bags and similar types can come into the arena with fans.

Here is the complete FedEx Field bag policy guide for your next event! I also share my bag recommendation on what to bring to the game. Finally, there is an affiliate link to Amazon on this page.

Approved Bags

FedEx Field, like other NFL venues, has a clear bag policy for game day. Therefore, if you plan on bringing a bag to the game, ensure it is clear. Below are the kinds of bags fans can bring into the venue for a football game or concert.

  • A clear plastic one-gallon bag
  • A clear single-compartment tote bag no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”
  • Any ADA-specific bag
  • Medical bags and Diaper bags
  • Small clutch bags and similar types of bags that are no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”

My Clear Bag Recommendation + Experience

The Bag I Recommend

I’ve been to plenty of football games where they have a clear bag policy in place. From my experience, I’ve never had any issues getting my clear fanny pack (11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″) through the bag check at any stadium. With that being the case, I always recommend bringing or picking up a clear fanny pack for anyone going to a football venue for a game or concert. Plus, my fanny pack is not that bulky, so I don’t mind walking around with it at stadiums.

Below is a video of me going into more details on why I like this type of bag.

How Does the FedEx Field Security Team Review Bags?

How Does the FedEx Field Security Team Review Bags

Fans arriving at FedEx Field for a football game or concert will undergo a metal detector screening at the gate before entering the stadium. Fans with a bag will have that inspected at the entrance. The bag inspection check reviews the type of bag you are carrying and the content inside of it. Assuming there are no issues with the bag you are trying to bring into the venue, you will get it back to enter the stadium for your event.

What are the Prohibited Items that Fans Can’t Bring into FedEx Field?

What are the Prohibited Items that Fans Can’t Bring into FedEx Field

Fans heading to FedEx Field for a football game or another event should understand that certain things can’t come into the stadium with them. Some items the stadium security staff won’t allow you to enter the venue are below. Visit the stadium guide section for the Commanders to get the list of prohibited items that can’t come into the arena with fans.

  • Non-clear bags. However, the exception to this rule is for medical bags and diaper bags
  • A clear tote bag larger than 12” x 6” x 12”
  • Backpacks
  • Coolers
  • Fanny packs
  • Gym bags
  • Laptop bags
  • Luggage
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Outside food and drinks
  • Animals not for ADA purposes
  • Noisemakers

Is There a Bag Check or Locker Storage Area at FedEx Field?

There is no official bag check or locker storage area at FedEx Field for fans to use if they can bring their bags into the venue. Therefore, plan only to bring a clear plastic tote bag if you need a bag for the game. The only exception to this bag rule is medical and diaper bags. Otherwise, the bag has to be clear to enter the venue with fans.

If you tailgate in the parking lots before a game, remember that backpacks and coolers can’t come into the venue with you for a game. Therefore, you should plan to leave all of those bags and coolers in your car before heading to the entrance.

Finally, if you don’t have a car to leave your bag at for a game, see if a nearby hotel can watch your stuff. Some of the nearest hotels to the venue are about a mile away. Most hotels charge a bag-holding fee to watch bags. However, if you realize your bag can’t come into the stadium after reading this guide, plan to stop by a hotel two hours before your event to try and get a spot for your bag. Otherwise, home games and big concerts may result in limited storage space at hotels to watch additional bags, which means they can’t protect your stuff.
