Audi Field Bag Policy

Audi Field is home to the Major League Soccer Club, D.C. United, at 100 Potomac Ave SW, Washington, DC 20024. Along with that, it is home to Washington Spirit, a member of  the National Women’s Soccer League. The bag policy at the venue for a game or event is that single-compartment bags that don’t exceed the size 14″ by 14″ by 6″ can enter. Also, small purses and similar bags can enter the facility, but traditional backpacks can’t.

Here is the complete Audi Field bag policy guide for your next D.C. United match! I also share my bag recommendation on what to bring to the game. Finally, there is an affiliate link to Amazon on this page.

Approved Bags

More MLS venues are moving towards a clear single-compartment bag policy, so getting one now sets you up well for the future. Plus, having a clear single-compartment bag means the security check will be faster than a traditional bag check at the gate. Below are other types of bags that fans can bring into the soccer-specific stadium on game day.

  • Diaper bags that don’t exceed the size limit of 14″ by 14″ by 6″
  • Any ADA-specific bag
  • Cinch bags/ Tote Bags / Drawstring bags
  • Clear single-compartment bags that don’t exceed 14″ by 14″ by 6″
  • Small purses
  • A clear fanny pack

My Clear Bag Recommendation + Experience

My Clear Bag Recommendation

I’ve been to several MLS games and have had no issues bringing my clear fanny pack with me. Most MLS venues have the same bag policy as Audi Field, so I’m confident that my clear fanny pack (11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″) in size would get into Audi Field. Also, I’ve never had any stadium reject this type of bag during the bag check, so I imagine that Audi Field wouldn’t have a problem with it either.

Below is a video of me going into more detail on why I recommend this type of bag.

Consider purchasing a clear single-compartment bag!

How Does Audi Field Review Your Bag?

How Does Audi Field Review Your Bag

D.C. United fans coming to Audi Field for a game must pass a security check via a metal detector at the gate. If a fan has a bag with them, they will go through a special line for fans with bags since those security checks take longer. The security team will review the bag to ensure it fits their size requirement and doesn’t contain items that can’t enter the facility. Assuming there is no concern with what you are trying to bring in with you at the gate, you will be allowed to scan your ticket to enter the facility.

What Items Can’t You Bring into Audi Field?

Fans coming to Audi Field must be aware that there are items that they can’t enter with at the gate. Some of those items are below. Here is the official link to D.C. United to see the entire list of prohibited items.

  • Aerosol Cans
  • Backpacks and other similar types of bags
  • Suitcases
  • Bags that are larger than 14″ by 14″ by 6″
  • Selfie sticks
  • Noisemakers
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Coolers
  • Outside Food or Beverages (As a note, there are exceptions to this rule if you need them for medical reasons)
  • Drones
  • Frisbees
  • Glassware
  • Rollerblades
  • Umbrellas

What Should You Do If Your Bag Is Too Big to Enter Audi Field?

If your bag can’t enter Audi Field for a game, fans can use the locker storage units on site to store them. D.C. United partners with a locker storage company called Binbox, which fans can download their app on their phone to purchase a locker storage unit for their belongings. As a note, there are limited lockers to buy, so plan to arrive early if your bag is too large to enter the facility.

If you can’t get a locker directly at the site for any reason, there are multiple bars and hotels around Audi Field and Nationals Park that you can see if they will hold onto your stuff. Most bars and hotels charge a small fee to watch your belongings.
