Southwest University Park Bag Policy

Southwest University Park is home to the El Paso Chihuahuas Triple-A Minor League Baseball team for the San Diego Padres MLB team. The bag policy at the ballpark allows fans to bring in one clear single-compartment bag that does not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″ in size. Another type of bag that fans can bring into the ballpark is a small clutch purse (or similar type of bag) that fits in the palm of your hand.

Here is the complete Southwest University Park bag policy guide for your next El Paso Chihuahuas baseball game. I also share my bag recommendation on what to bring to the game. Finally, there is an affiliate link to Amazon on this page.

Approved Bags

Southwest University Park, like most MiLB venues, has a strict clear bag policy for fans wanting to bring a bag. However, there are minor exceptions to the clear bag rule. Below are the different types of bags you can bring into the stadium.

  • A small clear single-compartment bag that does not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″
  • A clear one-gallon Ziplock bag
  • Diaper bags
  • Medical bags
  • A clear fanny pack
  • Small wristlets and purses that fit in your hand (6.5″ x 4.5″)
  • ADA types of bags
  • There are clear bags that you can buy directly at the team shop too

My Clear Bag Recommendation + Experience

My Clear Bag Recommendation

I’ve been to countless stadiums with my clear fanny pack without any issues over the years. My clear fanny pack measures 11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″, which tends to be on the smaller side for what venues allow. With the bag being small and clear, the bag check review at stadiums tends to be very quick.

Below is my video recommending what clear bag to bring into stadiums.

How Does the Southwest University Park Team Review Bags?

How Does the Southwest University Park Team Review Bags

Fans arriving at Southwest University Park for a baseball game will undergo a metal detector screening at the gate before entering the ballpark. Fans with a bag will go through a bag inspection check at the gate. The bag inspection reviews the type of bag you bring into the ballpark and the content inside it. If everything checks out fine, you will get it back to enter the stadium with.

What are the Prohibited Items that Fans Can’t Bring into Southwest University Park?

Southwest University Park has a list of objects that fans can’t bring into the stadium for a baseball game. Below are some of those things that can’t come into the stadium. Be sure to visit the ballpark’s guidelines section for the most up-to-date information on the list of prohibited items.

  • Clear single-compartment bags larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″
  • Glass bottles
  • Air horns
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Frisbees
  • Skateboards
  • Outside food and drinks. However, there are minor exceptions to this rule. For example, fans can bring medical and baby food into the ballpark. Fans can also bring one factory-sealed water bottle into the stadium.
  • Drones
  • Outside alcohol
  • Coolers

Is There a Bag Check or Locker Storage Area for Fans to Use at Southwest University Park?

There is no official locker storage option for fans to use at Southwest University Park. Therefore, if the security team doesn’t allow your bag to enter the stadium with you, you will need to bring it back to your car and leave it there.

If you don’t have a car to leave your bag in, see if a nearby hotel or restaurant can watch it while you are at the game. Most hotels and restaurants have a storage closet where they can hold onto bags. However, space tends to be limited, so there is no guarantee they can watch your stuff. If they can, they tend to charge a small bag-holding fee.

Additional Information for an El Paso Chihuahuas Baseball Game

There is official and unofficial parking near Southwest University Stadium for fans to use for a baseball game. Fans looking for ADA parking can find that at the Franklin/Durango Parking lot.

The only outside food that fans can bring into the ballpark is for medical/dietary/baby reasons. Fans can also bring one factory-sealed water bottle into the stadium. Otherwise, outside food and drinks can’t come into the ballpark.
