MetLife Stadium is home to the New York Giants and New York Jets NFL teams at 1 MetLife Stadium Dr, East Rutherford, New Jersey 07073. The clear bag policy at MetLife Stadium for any game, concert, or other types of events allows bags to enter that don’t exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″. Fans can also bring in small clutch-type bags (purses and handbags) that don’t exceed 4.5″ x 6.5″ into the arena.
Here is the complete MetLife Stadium bag policy guide for your next NFL game, concert, or event! I also share my bag recommendation on what to bring to the game. Finally, there is an affiliate link to Amazon on this page.
Approved Bags
MetLife Stadium has a strict clear bag policy, so bringing any other bag won’t be allowed inside the arena, except for small purses. Below are the types of bags you can bring into the New York Jets / New York Giants stadium.
- A clear single-compartment bag that does not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″
- A clear fanny pack
- Diaper bags/ medical bags that are clear. Note there are exceptions to this rule, but consider bringing in a clear bag so you don’t run into any issues at the gate.
- A clear single-compartment backpack
- A one-gallon clear freezer bag (Ziploc or similar)
- Any ADA-specific type of bag
My Clear Bag Recommendation + Experience
While I have not been to MetLife Stadium, I have many friends who have. The friends who have brought a bag to the stadium all brought a single compartment bag and had no issues with it at the gate. The staff at the stadium does strictly enforce a clear bag policy, so only bring that type of bag to your next event. Also, I’ve been to numerous football games with my clear fanny pack, and I have never had an issue getting it through the bag check process at the gate.
Below is a video of me explaining why I recommend bringing a clear fanny pack to venues. As a note, my clear fanny pack measures 11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″
Buy a clear single-compartment bag for your next New York Giants or New York Jets football game!
How Does the MetLife Stadium Security Team Review Bags?
Fans coming to the NFL venue in northern New Jersey for a game or concert will first pass through a metal detector at any entrance. Fans who have a bag with them will go through an additional security inspection that reviews their bag. The bag inspection examines the size of the bag and the content inside of it. Assuming the security team finds no issues with your bag, you will get it back and can bring it into the arena.
Are There Any Items that Fans Can’t Bring into MetLife Stadium?
Fans coming out to the Jets/Giants game should familiarize themselves with the prohibited items list for MetLife Stadium. Since tailgating is part of the experience of coming to a football game, certain items from tailgating can’t come into the arena. Below are some things that MetLife Stadium staff won’t allow inside the venue. Also, here is the most up-to-date prohibited items list for MetLife Stadium if you want to check that out.
- Seat cushions (Exceptions occur at the gate for ADA or medical reasons)
- Glass bottles
- Coolers
- Non-clear bags (Backpacks, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, etc.)
- Ice chests
- Selfie sticks
- Umbrellas
- Weapons of any kind
- Drones
Is there a Bag Check or Locker Storage Area at MetLife Stadium?
Before heading to the NFL stadium for your event with your bag, read the bag policy guidelines above to see if your bag can enter the venue. If you have a traditional backpack (or something else) that can’t enter the stadium, you should leave them in your car before getting in line to enter the stadium. MetLife stadium only allows clear bags inside the venue, so only get in line if you have that bag.
If you are taking the train to a NY Giants/Jets game and don’t have a car to put your bag in, see if a nearby hotel can watch your stuff. Several hotels sit alongside the Meadowlands Sports Complex within walking distance of the NFL stadium. Most hotels charge a fee on the game day via luggage storage to watch your stuff since they only have limited storage space to hold onto bags when fans are at the game.
