Comerica Park Bag Policy

Comerica Park is the Major League Baseball home of the Detroit Tigers at 2100 Woodward Ave, Detroit, Michigan 48201. The bag policy at Comerica Park only allows single-compartment bags, wallets, and small purses that don’t exceed 4″ x 6″ x 1.5″ into the stadium. That means that regular backpacks won’t be allowed inside the stadium. However, the rules become linnet for diaper bags ADA bags, and medical bags, where they can’t exceed 16″ x 16″ x 8″.

Here is the complete Comerica Park bag policy and more to know about when coming to watch the Tigers play. I also share my bag recommendation on what to bring to the game. Finally, there is an affiliate link to Amazon on this page.

Approved Bags

Comerica Park has one of the more extreme bag policies in Major League Baseball, so most bags are not allowed inside the venue. Your best bet is to buy a small clear bag with a single compartment to bring to Comerica Park for a Tigers game.

  • A diaper bag that does not exceed 16″ x 16″ x 8″
  • A medical bag/breast pump bag that does not exceed 16″ x 16″ x 8″. This bag will need to be cleared by the staff at the venue. The stadium staff must also review any medical device and bag that a fan needs to bring into the venue.
  • Bringing in a single-compartment bag that does not exceed 4″ x 6″ x 1.5″
  • A single-compartment wallet that does not exceed 4″ x 6″ x 1.5″
  • A clear bag that is a single compartment that does not exceed 4″ x 6″ x 1.5″

My Clear Bag Recommendation + My Experience

My Clear Bag Recommendation

I didn’t do my research before going to Comerica Park and realized my backpack couldn’t enter the venue. Therefore, I had to find a nearby hotel to leave my backpack in, which wasn’t great because I had to catch a flight back to Boston about three hours from first pitch. My recommendation is that if you need to bring a bag to the game, be sure to bring a clear bag that doesn’t exceed the size limit of Comerica Park. Otherwise, they can turn you away at the gate.

Today, I only bring my clear fanny pack to games, so I never run into this issue again. My clear fanny pack is 11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″ in size, and it has never been turned down at the gate for any venue I’ve been to.

Below is a video of me explaining why I recommend bringing a clear fanny pack to games.

Guests coming to the MLB ballpark for a baseball game or another event must go through a metal detector. Fans with a bag will have them searched by the security team to ensure they follow the bag policy guide and don’t have any prohibited items in them. If there are any issues with the bag or the content inside it, the fan will need to surrender that at the stadium, leave them in their car, or find a place to store them.

What Should You Do If Your Bag Is Too Big to Enter Comerica Park?

If your bag does not comply with Comerica Park’s guidelines, you must leave those items in your car before returning to the stadium.

If you took public transportation to the game and didn’t have a car to put your stuff in, your best bet is to go to a nearby hotel and see if they can hold onto it. Most hotels will charge a small fee to hold onto your stuff while you are at a game.

I left my backpack and luggage at a nearby hotel on my way to Comerica Park in 2019 without any problems. I was flying out later that day and got off the bus from Cleveland, so I didn’t have a car to put my stuff in. The cost back in 2019 for a hotel to hold onto my stuff was $10, and they tagged my bag, so I could pick it up on my way back to the hotel before calling an Uber to get to the airport.
