Moda Center (formerly Rose Garden Arena and Moda Center at the Rose Quarter) is home to the Portland Trailblazers NBA team at 1 N Center Ct St, Portland, OR 97227. The Moda Center bag policy allows fans to bring bags that don’t exceed 14″ x 14″ x 6″ in size. However, traditional backpacks and similar bags can’t come into the arena with fans. Only single-compartment bags that don’t exceed the size limit can go into the arena with fans.
Here is the complete Moda Center bag policy guide for your next basketball game or event. I also share my bag recommendation on what to bring to the game. Finally, there is an affiliate link to Amazon on this page.
Approved Bags
While the rules have changed slightly in 2023 / 2024 season to allow non-clear bags into the venue, getting a clear bag will result in a faster security check at the gate. Plus, more and more venues are adopting the clear bag policy, so getting a clear bag now can go into more venues in the future. Below are the types of bags that can come into Moda Center.
- A single-compartment bag that does not exceed 14″ x 14″ x 6″
- Any ADA-specific bag
- Medical bags and Diaper bags
- A clear fanny pack
- Small clutches and similar types of bags
My Clear Bag Recommendation + Experience
I’ve been to several arenas that have the same type of bag policy as Moda Center. I tend to air on the side of caution when it comes to the bag policy at venues, so I always bring my clear fanny pack. My clear fanny pack measures 11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″, which makes it smaller than what most venues allow. I’ve never had an issue getting that type of bag through security, so I tend to bring it everywhere I go now. Plus, the bag itself is not too bulky.
Below is a video of me going into more details about this type of bag.

How Does the Moda Center Security Team Review Bags?
Fans arriving at Moda Center for a basketball game or another event will undergo a metal detector screening at the gate before entering the venue. Fans with a bag will go through a bag check inspection at the gate. The bag check inspection includes reviewing the size of the bag and the content inside of it. Assuming there are no issues with the bag, you will get it back to enter the stadium with.
What are the Prohibited Items that Fans Can’t Bring into Moda Center?
Fans coming to Moda Center for a game or concert should be familiar with the prohibited items list for the facility. Below are some items the stadium security staff won’t allow inside the arena. Visit the A-Z guide of Rose Quarter for the complete list of prohibited items.
- Aerosol Cans
- Bags larger than 14″ x 14″ x 6″
- Drones
- Outside food and drinks
- Laptops and tablets
- Laser pointers
- Weapons of any kind
- Selfie sticks
- Noisemakers
Is There a Locker Storage Area for Fans to Use at Moda Center?
If your bag can’t come into Moda Center with you, you must bring it back to your car and leave it there. After that, you’ll need to get back in line to enter the stadium and pass another security check at the gate.
If you don’t have a car to leave your bag in, see if a nearby hotel or bar can watch your stuff. There are a few hotels within walking distance of the NBA arena you can visit to see if they can watch your bag. Most hotels generally charge a few dollars to watch your bag while you are at the game.
