Barclays Center Bag Policy: My Bag Recommendation

Barclays Center is home to the NBA Brooklyn Nets and WNBA New York Liberty teams at 620 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217. The Barclays Center bag policy allows fans to bring drawstring bags that don’t exceed 14” x 14” x 6” into the arena. Also, fans can bring small purses and similar bags to a game at the venue.

Approved Bags

While Barclays Center does not require bags to be clear in 2023, more and more NBA venues are adopting that policy, which means Barclays can do the same. Therefore, getting a clear bag now will set you up well for if or when the bag rule changes at the arena. Below are the bags that can come into the venue with guests.

 

• Any medical bag
• A small plastic bag
• Any parent bag
• Small clutches and purses
• A small clear fanny pack
• Drawstring backpacks / any single-compartment bag that does not exceed 14” x 14” x 6”

 

My Clear Bag Recommendation + My Experience

I’ve been to the Barclays Center a handful of times and have friends who have been there more recently than me. One of my friends brought in a clear fanny pack (from my recommendation) and had no problems bringing that into the arena. The clear fanny pack that I bring to venues these days measures 11″ x 6.5″ x 5.9″ in size, so it is far below the max size that the Barclays Center allows. I also recommend bringing a clear fanny pack to arenas because it is easy for the security staff to review, which means I get into the arena quickly.

How Does the Barclays Center Security Team Review Bags?

Fans coming to the Brooklyn Nets/ NY Liberty venue will undergo a metal detector screening at the entrance. Fans who bring a bag to the game will go through an additional security screening at the gate with their bag. The bag inspection includes ensuring it does not exceed the size limit and does not contain any prohibited items inside of it. Assuming there are no issues with your bag or items inside of it, you will get it back to enter the stadium.

 

What are the Prohibited Items That Can’t Enter Barclays Center?

Fans coming to the Brooklyn NBA venue for any game or event should leave certain items home. Below are some things the security team won’t allow you to enter the arena. If you want the complete list of prohibited items that can’t enter the arena, check out this link from barclayscenter.com.

 

• Weapons of any kind
• Bags that exceed the size of 14” x 14” x 6”. That includes traditional backpacks and any other type of large bag
• Recording devices
• Laser pointers
• Balloons
• Aerosol cans
• Selfie sticks
• Coolers
• Drones
• Umbrellas
• Outside food and drinks. As a note, there are exceptions to this rule, like if you need to bring baby formula into the venue. If you plan to do that, put those items into a clear plastic bag. The clear plastic bag helps the security team review them at the gate.)

 

Is There a Locker or Bag Check Area at Barclays Center If You Can’t Bring Your Bag into the Venue?

While there is no official bag check area at Barclays Center to leave your bag, there are two options you can take on what to do next. First, if you drive to the venue and can’t bring your bag into the arena, you can always leave it in your car.

 

Second, if you took public transportation to the game and didn’t have a car to leave your bag in, you can see if a nearby restaurant or hotel will watch your stuff. Fans coming from work to the game who have a bag (or items) that can’t enter the arena can see if a nearby place will hold onto their stuff. For instance, most hotels charge a small fee to hold onto bags while fans are at the game if they have space in their storage closet.
