When did Target Field Open?

Target Field’s opening day was on April 10th, 2010. The new ballpark was a significant change as this ballpark replaced the Metrodome which was a dome stadium with turf instead of grass. Target Field is an open-air ballpark with actual grass, so this marked a significant change to the playing field for the Twins.

The seating capacity at the ballpark holds 39,504 people. The most significant record attendance came in at 44,152 which was a concert for Kenny Chesney. For baseball events, you can expect bigger crowds to show up when the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, or New York Yankees come into town to visit.

Getting baseball game tickets for a Twins game will not be difficult for most regular season games. With the park being an open-air concept, many fans elect not to show up in April when the weather is at it’s coldest. When the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants come into town, you can expect a big turnaround to catch those matchups. Nearby Parks

Fans visiting Target Field can make their trip more complete by visiting other nearby ballparks. If you head southeast of Target Field, you will get to American Family Field which is home to the Milwaukee Brewers. When you head south of Milwaukee, you arrive in Chicago which is home to the White Sox and Cubs. Each of their ballparks respectively are Guaranteed Rate Field and Wrigley Field.

 

Notable Features

Target Field was a significant change via the playing field for the Twins. At their previous ballpark, you had a white roof with astro-turf as the playing field. In the new baseball stadium, you have an open-air concept with real grass. The Twins hosted the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby in 2014 to celebrate their new field. The All-Star game in 2014 was also Derek Jeter’s final All-Star game, so that was a treat for fans.

 

A favorite fan section in the park is out in left field at the Budweiser Party Deck. This section is a standing room only area, but it’s famous for meeting up with friends before and during the game.

 

The Minnie and Paul Logo out in Right Field adds a unique fan experience during the game. These logos represent the two minor league teams that played in the Twin Cities back in the day. These two teams were the Minneapolis Millers and the St. Paul Saints. When a Twins player hits a home run, you will see this logo light up and shake hands which each other. Many additional statues are also at the ballpark. With each gate that you can venture through, you will find the Twins honoring some legendary players. Names like Tony Olivia, Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew, and Kirby Puckett to name a few
